The Atlas of Tomorrow

The Atlas of Tomorrow is an interactive mural that embeds a contemplative tool within the city's fabric. Inspired by the I Ching, one of the oldest books in the world which offers constructive perspectives for any situation and has been a meaningful tool for Chang, passersby are invited to spin a six-foot dial to select one of sixty-four fables along the wall for poetic guidance on situations where they seek clarity. A collaboration with Mural Arts Philadelphia, the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual Disability Services, and Broad Street Ministry, the work was created by finger painting over 200,000 dots with the Philadelphia community and explores art as meditation for examining our inner world of archetypes and relationships. Stories written byJames A. Reeves. Featured in the 2016- 2017 exhibition By the People: Designing a Better America at Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
