ABOUT THE GIRL

Candy is an artist, designer, and urban planner in New York City. With a background in architecture, urban planning, and graphic design, she likes to make information more accessible and engaging through design and the creative use of public space. She is a big fan of cross-disciplinary collaboration and is into empowering citizens by improving the ways people communicate and share information. She has had the opportunity to work in Nairobi, New Orleans, Vancouver, Johannesburg, and New York City on community-based design projects.

In 2001 she co-founded creative agency Red Antenna with James Reeves and Stephen Baker. She went on to become Assistant Art Director at The New York Times, and she later received her Master's degree in urban planning from Columbia University.

Thanks to nerdy computer programs and vintage keyboards, she also makes minimal techno and big electro. She released her record Typography in 2003 and has performed in NYC and Grenoble. Her art work has been featured in the Conflux Festival, Opensource Gallery, and MC2 Center.

Candy now spends her time making public art, working on community-based projects, and designing things at Red Antenna. She likes fables, big typography, and world's fairs, and has won few awards that compare to 2nd place in rodeo horse grooming when she was 7.
