Report

Inspired by her first trip across the Brooklyn Bridge and subsequent journey through the most un-Brooklyn-y parts of Brooklyn, Candy's Brooklyn Bridge Signage project proposes a wayfinding system for the bridge's pedestrian promenade. The path unexplainably divides into two unmarked pathways with lots of signs - for the cars. It wasn't until Candy lived in Boerum Hill that she knew of all the amazing parks, recreational areas, and historic sites near the bridge.

To help pedestrians find surrounding attractions and feel a warm welcome fitting for the borough with the mostest, Candy implemented a survey, spoke to over 20 local organizations, and analyzed the area with Kevin Lynch's Image of the City in mind. She developed a DIY stenciled navigation that will be implemented soon, and she presented a 3' x 7.5' poster on the project called "Welcome to Brooklyn! Where the (blank) am I?: Improving Wayfinding on the Brooklyn Bridge" at the American Planning Association's national conference in San Antonio, Texas. She created an additional 3' x 4' poster as a continuation of the project.
